An experiment is a planned course of action with a defined objective, carried out under controlled conditions and most often following a defined protocol. The aim is to test a hypothesis, identify a cause, validate evidence, or demonstrate a known fact. The course of action, as well as the results and observations, are systematically documented in lab journals or electronic lab notebooks.
