FAIR refers to an initiative by scientists and organizations propagating future-oriented concepts for the sustainable use and management of data. Central to this are the FAIR guiding principles, which provide guidelines to improve the Findability (F), Accessibility (A), Interoperability (I), and Reusability (R) of digital assets. Since humans rely more and more on computational support when dealing with data, FAIR emphasizes machine actionability, i.e. the ability of computer systems to autonomously address and handle FAIR data.
